Hi, What would be the nearer to LighWave surfaces is (I think) material indices or vertex groups. Create a new material index (new button below the 1 Mat 1 in the editing tab F9), select the faces, click assign. This is quite equivalent to asign a surface in LW Then in shading tab F5, you can create a new material and asign it to that index, by selecting the corrsponding number in the [1 Mat 1] area Vertex groups are more subtil, since you can paint the weight of the material, assign particle emiter for hair, and so on. But for simple crisp color material asignement, indices should be sufficient. Hope that helped
