You were right about omniORB. It finds the omnithread lib, but it can't find
omniORB4 and omniDynamic4. Those three are all in /usr/local/lib, so why can
it do -lomnithread, but not -lomniORB4 and -lomniDynamic4?

Below is the output of configure:

checking omniORB4/CORBA.h usability... yes
checking omniORB4/CORBA.h presence... yes
checking for omniORB4/CORBA.h... yes
checking for -lomnithread... yes
checking for -lomniORB4... no
checking for -lomniDynamic4... no
use omniORB
