Today we discovered that ImageMagick (and GraphicsMagick) have silently been loosing the resolution of JPEG files for at least two or three years, or perhaps even as long as ImageMagick has supported JPEG. The resolution was always set to 72 DPI unless it was overridden with -density. The simple command convert in.jpg out.jpg would loose the original resolution. For example, if in.jpg was 300 DPI, out.jpg would be indicated to be 72 DPI. Does anyone see any negative side-effects that might be caused by fixing this problem?
