I am very pleased that the next VIPS
(http://www.vips.ecs.soton.ac.uk/index.php?title=VIPS) release will
support using GraphicsMagick rather than ImageMagick. For those of
you not familiar with VIPS, VIPS is an image processing package which
uses a "pull through" model with incremental pipelined processing in
order to use much less memory (if possible). VIPS is fast and
efficient with large images. It could be seen that GraphicsMagick and
VIPS are competitors, but really they are complementary due to their
substantially different usage and capabilities.

Interestingly, it was observed that when using the TIFF format, some
capabilities of VIPS were extended by using GraphicsMagick 1.2 rather
than ImageMagick.
