Maybe some controllers flip their nodeID register field to valid briefly 
after a self ID complete interrupt --- without generating a new 
interrupt after that.

Alas nobody of the remaining active (haha...) driver developers has a 
setup with this very problem to do some own tests with hacked drivers.
