There was an invitation to fork the project three years ago with the
1.0.0 release:  http://kinodv.org/article/view/157/1/7/
Could be that this information has become somewhat obscure by now.

Plus, since then, not only kdenlive but also other video editor projects
made good progress; so instead of a revival of Kino development,
contributions to one or another of these other projects to make them as
easy to use as Kino in Kino's usage areas might be a more effective
investment.
