bah, I don't get where people get this crap?  They are not abandoning
anyone.  Where did the guy say anything remotely like that?  How many
fcp editors need float based compositors or node based compositing?

They are simply moving shake to a fully hardware based compositor
which needs a rewrite to do properly.  Shake has issues with anything
timeline based, caching, more then 5 channels, quicktime support &
playback and a bunch of other stuff we have bitching about since the
early years before Apple bought them.  Much of this sounds like issues
with the core of Shake that needed to be rewritten in order to work
properly.  Gpu processing is here and it is fast, might as well use it
as the base of future apps.
