Jakob Nielsen's Alertbox for November 24 is now online at: http://www.useit.com/alertbox/20031124.html Summary: On average across many test tasks, users fail 35% of the time when using websites. This is 100,000 times worse than six sigma's requirement, but Web usability can still benefit from a six sigma quality approach. ------------ Announcing Usability Week 2004 > Orlando, Florida, March 1-5 > London, England, March 24-26 > Copenhagen, Denmark, March 29 - April 2 > San Francisco, California, May 12-16 > Melbourne, Australia, May 17-21 In-depth training: > 3-day Intensive Camp: Usability in Practice The 3-day format has two major advantages: * With a single curriculum covering three days, each element in the seminar can build on the previous ones. Tighter integration allows us to present information that would have required four days of stand-alone tutorials. * Keeping the group together for three days allows much more in-depth networking and exchange of experience. Three days will always require a bigger commitment than a single day, but based on the experience from the trial camp in 2003, it's worth it. The 2004 camps should be even better since they will be updated based on the audience feedback from the first camp. New seminar with new research: > Web Usability 2004 In the ten years since I conducted my first comprehensive usability study of the Web, many things have changed. We are reexamining the principles of Web usability from the ground up, conducting a new series of usability studies to find out which aspects of Web design help and hurt users the most these days. This seminar will report what we found. (Unfortunately, results will not be available until the last three cities of the tour.) 1-day tutorials on specialized topics: > Intranet Usability > Interaction Design > Presenting Company Information on Corporate Websites > Beyond ALT Text: Designing Accessible Websites > E-Mail Newsletter Usability > Visioneering (vision engineering): Creating a Design Direction More info and full program: http://www.nngroup.com/events
