The bookmarks folders have never been intended to fully replace the
sessions functionality (someone correct me if I'm wrong) they are merely
being a substitute until the real thing gets back (if it gets back.)

IIRC, a session included all windows in all workspaces, and all open
tabs in all windows.  This is not possible to do with just the bookmarks
(extending the bookmarks to achieve that is not an option, see the
archives.)

Anyway, having never much used the user defined sessions, it's somewhat
unclear to me what exactly are the use cases, and what exactly is
considered a session in this context.  For example, including windows in
other workspaces feels like it's more confusing than it's worth.

I'd argue most people don't care about sessions, and of those who do,
most would just like to be able to save the state of the current window
and all its tabs and call it a session.

IMHO, the whole issue needs to be discussed with the usability team
before there's any chance of getting it implemented properly.  I think
it was discussed before, at least partially, but I can't remember the
outcome.¹

Oh, and I'm leaving this to someone who cares about the sessions to
handle...

Hmm, I can't remember straight away how the recent files thingie was
intended to be used in applications, maybe we should be adding that
too.  However, the sessions are a wildly different thing, and it's
independent of recent files.
