My 2 cents

Hi all,

First off, I should apologise for my lack of presence as of late. I'm
working a full time co-op term at IBM right now and it, predictably,
eats most of my time up.

Anyone who's had the misfortune of being in my presence when the subject
of the HIG comes up will know what I think all too well, so I'm just
going to throw the following out on the table:

As mentioned already: It's a really dumb idea to alienate your current
user base in an attempt to cater to potential future users who don't
actually exist at the moment. It's even worse when obtaining said future
users is predicated on gnome2 actually getting any traction. I remain
thoroughly unconvinced of the later.

I still use gnome1 and galeon1, meaning that I'm hard pressed to roll
stuff in to galeon2, as marco is well aware. Why is this? Lack of
features and configurability. I simply don't like the direction that
gnome2 was taken, which is also the direction that galeon2 is going as
well; The user is stupid and, in anycase, Seth Nickell knows best.

The tyranny of the HIG sure as hell isn't producing applications that I
find easier to use; instead I am forced to conform my usage patterns to
Seth's ideal. No one is going to convince me that that's an improvement.

For the time being, I still use galeon1, and I'd like to think that I'm
still maintaining it in some sense, though my lack of time limits what I
can do. Obviously, this is probably not a sustainable long term
solution; but what is? Grit your teeth and take the gnome2 experience?
