What does that have to do with anything? For starters, those are different OSes (you can't run any Linux applications on Windows anyway, doesn't mean that Linux sucks). GNOME shouldn't need to compare itself to Windows to find something it's better than, now should it? For what it's worth: I run fvwm2, start my stuff from .xsession, and everything is nice. I use two GNOME applications all the time: galeon and evolution (actually, now I use gaim as well, since we started using MSN stuff at work, and I'm looking at jabber). This works quite nicely for me, I've set up Emacs-like keybindings, I have gnome-settings-daemon[0] running, and I've set up the correct URL handlers in gconf somewhere. Piece of cake. [0] - And what's with gnome-settings-daemon anyway? Why can't gconfd do the job? I don't understand why we need two of those things. Additionally, I would like to second Karsten's gripe about the missing man pages. Where is it documented what gnome-settings-daemon does? Where is it documented what you can put in ~/.gtkrc-2.0 (or whatever it's called).
