the thing i loved about galeon was that it automatically grabbed the icon for the website, and it used it for the bookmark so you could put it on the bookmark toolbar. what happened to all the customization that was in galeon 1.2? i really don't understand this trend towards providing less. it's like rh8, it was less customizable than rh7.3, and it's a trend, both in user interface and browsers, rh9: lesser; fedora:lessest. i don't get it. where's the throbber selection, where's the theme for buttons/icons, where's the choice for text w/ icons, under icons, no text; what about external mail handler, download manager? what happened to all the things that made galeon 1.2 a better choice than mozilla or netscape. if i wanted firefox or internet explorer, i wouldn't have taken all this time to get mozilla 1.7.5 and gecko to try to get galeon 1.2.14 to compile, then ask the user list for help, then get galeon 1.3.19, set the stupid bonobo bonehead server setting cuz it didn't run right out of the box. that bobobobonobobobo crap should have been taken care of by the 'make install' command or somewhere in the build process, not in an 'oh, yeah, um, you know, if you get a message that bonehead can't find the gnome.server thing, um, we forgot to do that while we were so busy tearing the guts out of "the web, only the web", um, that you have to do it. and, um, you might want to reboot, too. sorry, i mean, you have to reboot' firefox hahahahahahahahahaha, laughing maniacally, internet EXPLODER!!, here come the guys with strait jacket. you know, m&m's gave us back the red m&m, and guess what, they made a bunch of new colors, and we got to vote on them, too. can i have my autofetch website icon function back? you know what happens when you click on an email address? you get the evolution setup wizard. you know if you put bookmarks on the toolbar, you don't even get a tooltip to remind you what the abbreviation you used to rename the bookmark is because you didn't want one bookmark title taking up half the bookmark toolbar, even mozzarella does that. what happens when you click on a link in the galeon help manual? it pulls up.....drum roll....firefox.....rim shot.? actually, all i want is for someone to explain the motivation behind galeon 1.3.19, just 'what happened', that's all. or, i got it, just tell me how to get 1.2.14 to compile and i'll go back to that and leave the list in peace. fair enough?? signing off, shakin my head, and noticing that, if you look at galeon while you're shaking your head, it looks a lot like .......... firefox. philip dahlquist by the way, i am hoping that this generates -alot- (sick) (sic) of responses, because, i think that the guy who is the pet control person in that crappy west virginia backwoods holler, the one who gets to "euthanize" the excess dog population by dragging the lucky dog, who has all four paws planted firmly in the mud, by a leash made from a piece of rope that effectively is a choke chain, out back behind the shed, while he explains to the cnn news crew, whose collective jaws dropped, that, with smiling eyes, he thinks that it's really the best thing for the animal, to be put down by a frickin psycho holding a double barrel shotgun to the back of the dog's head, cuz i think he has a cs degree and he just did the same thing to my pet galeon. sorry, that was a little long, but i think that 80mg oxycontin pill is starting to kick in. pharmacoepia is better with a jack black chaser anyway. by the way, did i say that already, that story about the dog catcher, it's true. ------------------------------------------------------- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users.
