I finally deleted all bookmark files I could find for Galeon, both in .galeon and in .mozilla; rebooted; immported my main stash from Opera into Konqueror; and re-imported them all from there to Galeon, which had indeed launched after the reboot. I'll have to reconstitute my last session -- or a new standard session -- as best I can; but I *have* Galeon again.
