launch shell command from context menu? pdf handler? epiphany?

Hi,

1. Question: calling shell commands from context menu?

Bookmarks->Edit Bookmarks->Smart Bookmarks Toolbar (select any
bookmark)->More Properties (on the bottom of this window) opens a
dialog box.

There I can check option "Add to context menu"


Now if I right click on a link - this smart bookmark appears in the
context menu. This bookmark is invoked with the right-clicked URL.

I want to launch shell commands with this URL. Is that possible?

basically I want to call 'opera -newwindow $URL'.


2. Question: pdf handler - save files to HDD?

Clicking on pdf always crashes galeon on debian etch. We have been
trying to debug it for at least half a year with no success. I have
received much help from this list with regard to this problem -
thank you a lot for this. But none of the proposed solutions worked for
me.

So finally another solution came to my mind: instead of calling the
pdf plugin (acroread) I want galeon to NOT open pdf files in a tab
(because it crashes), but to open a download window, and ask to save
a pdf to HDD. Is that possible?


3. Question: when should I switch to epiphany?

AFAIK galeon has been discontinued, and original galeon developers
are now focusing on merging galeon with epiphany (is that true?). I
wanted to ask what is the status of this "merge". Is epiphany
currently as functional as discontinued galeon is functional
currently? When should I switch to epiphany?

I'm not using GNOME at all. Only rox+sawfish. I don't mind if GNOME
(or KDE) libraries are installed on my machine (I have enough free
space ;) but I care about browser speed.

- is epiphany strictly GNOME dependent?
- does it mean that epiphany will be slower for me than galeon
  (because extra unused GNOME libs need to load)?
- will epiphany work without gnome session running?
