If I may, I will put in my two penn'th as a dumb user - but one who has
been with it since soon after Dave originally wrote the program.

There are things we need as users, either current ones or potentially
new...

. An easily recognisable place to go for downloads.
When there...
. Links to the most popular platform binaries - even if external.
. A downloadable source package for the remainder.
. A revisions log so we know what has changed since we last downloaded.
I have learned to live without versioning but at least a log is
essential.
. A documentation package.

The lack of some of these things - or at least a prominent pointer to
them - accounts for the steady trickle of "dumb questions" that we have
seen on the user list. It is ridiculous, for instance, that the official
SF download page only has Dave's last 2001 release on it.

I have struggled with CVS over the years as this is the only package I
get that insists that I use it to get compliable source. I would
struggle with SVN in the same way, as I have not yet had to use it. So
source distributions are essential, what ever mechanism is behind it.

If you want Tidy to be a developer only package then it hardly matters
but if you want real users then they are essential.
