utf-8 fonts and web mail

How do I do to make my web mail accept russian characters?

I tried cutting out some text in russian from the russian newspaper Pravda, and pasted
that into a mail I was writing via my web mail interface (using Opera browser, Glocalnet
Utfors web mail). Everything looked all right.

The mail returned from the mailinglist I sent it to with the russian text as only
question marks. The copy in my sent folder had likewise question marks instead of russian
characters. (I have asked the list members whether they can see the text correctly, but
have gotten no answers yet.) (I received another mail from the list with arabic
characters, and those were shown correctly. Hm?)

The only thing I can find in settings is "encode international addresses with utf-8". I
had that set already.

Any suggestions? Is it a quirk of the web site (the web mail interface) or something I
can do within Opera?

regards/Rolf
