This is the workaround I've been using most, and probably a good habit 
to make, but every time I forget the search gets me.

This is clever, I just tried it; while it still prompts whether I meant 
"http://server/" it at least avoids the word search.  For security 
conscious sites it may add value by not leaking an intranet server name 
in the search query.
