search with ctrl-f and annoying scrolling

I noticed that pressing ctrl-f not only opens the search box but also
scrolls the screen one, and then at the end pressing <escape> scroll the
page one line too (in the opposite direction).
I find this a little annoying because it can cause the user to loose the
line where was the text found.
Is there a way to disable scrolling?
Is it possible to make the search box appear at the bottom of the screen?
(less important for me)
