Jock, ok, if you don't like it and are not willing to invest some time, well, leave it. (I don't want to leave a false impression though, I'm just a humble user as well... ;) But just for your information: .) You don't need X on the server machine. you run a X-client application (would be netscape for example), and that one accesses the X-server on your desktop. That's the concept of X. .) You don't need a proxy or whatever. X-forwarding must be enabled on the sshd anyway, and if you're not used to it or do not have access to the server configuration that might be a hassle. But if it is enabled, you can just open a shell with "ssh -X -l <user> <machine>" and start any X program - it will display on your workstation. But again, if you use Windows and normally not use a local X-Server this is some effort. Admitted. .) Have you ever noticed the "beta" token in the mailing list? I'm sure you know what that means. The developer of the software tries to improve it and waits for input from users as you have done. But you can't expect that anything you don't like is fixed immedeately. If you want perfect software, go out and buy some (I'm sure there are solutions for graphics and design studios). When this software has "features" you don't like, you can try to get your money back. have a nice time and relax, ~klemens > > If the soloution is for me to install X on my server (which it > doesn't have, it's a headless box), set up a ssh proxy, and then > install X on my personal system; just so I can do a one time > configure of the app, then no thank you.
