No visible public albums

Hi, I have just upgraded from pixory beta.3.2, running as a standalone
app on XP, to beta 3.11, running as a webapp under Jetty on Linux.

The photo directory is the same as it was -- it was always a dir on
the linux box.

I can log in as the pixory admin and see the thumbnails and such, but
when I try to view the webapp as a public user, the entry page says
"Sorry, no albums are currently available to you."

In the admin interface, under Album->albumname, in the Sharing section
I see "share this album" followed by a menu in which "with public" is
selected.  I have hit save on this even though it started out with
this setting, having inherited it from the configuration set up by the
earlier version.

I wonder if you can offer pointers on how to diagnose this problem.
