You have to manually put properties in the entry, like this (right after the title):

#absolute_path "Ethics and Politics"/Vegan
#fn entry-20040901
#file_path "Ethics and Politics"/Vegan/entry-20040901

That makes the comment form show up properly. I'm surprised that these
properties have to be entered manually. Is there a renderer that puts
them in automatically?

The error doesn't happen anymore after making the above additions.

Put #nocomments yes in the entry just after the title.

Now, the comments themselves are not displaying after the story, so
now I'm off to investigate that.
