But if we're going to have to open up and read a file for every entry, 
we might as well store the metadata in the entry itself, where it will 
never go missing because someone copied the entry to a different 
category, or become out of date because someone forgot to edit it.

If we were using a subversion-based backend, we could store the metadata 
in the subversion repository.  (Not that I'm suggesting we do that. 
While such a solution would work for Christopher and I, it's hardly a 
good idea to require it for a new/non-technical user.  But it does bring 
up some fun possibilities, doesn't it?)
