Hi Mike,

A quick Google on js-disabled browser stats shows people arguing about a
percentage between 3% and 30%. The best thing would be to try to gauge the
percentage of your target market and work from there.

It is true that people surf with it off to allay security concerns and get
rid of popups (myself, guilty as charged). But it really depends what you're
making and for who.

IE still offers the chance to turn JS off via the Tools > Internet Options >
Security tab.

Where I work, no core functionality is implemented in javascript, but we
enhance it with javascript for those who have it - the key point being that
even without it, everything is still functional and available. (Server side
scripting languages really help facilitate this, btw). The one exception to
this is a clients-only site where we clearly state the spec you need to be
able to use the functionality.

HTH!
Nicky

A bit further into compatibility issues, does anyone have any thoughts on
JavaScript and, in particular, the need to provide complete access for those
who have JavaScript turned off? I thought IE now didn't even offer the user
the facility to disable JS and I struggle to think of many reasons why users
would bother to turn it off...
