We're fully supporting browsers that are standards compliant (e.g. IE
5.x-6.x, NS 6.x, 7.x, Mozilla, Safari). We're supporting legacy
browsers in that the presentation is dropped, but the content is
accessible.

In other words, when users come to our sites with a non-standards
compliant browser, they see a message at the top of the page that reads:

<strong>Please note:</strong> This site's design is best experienced
with a Web browser that supports Web standards,
but its content is accessible to any browser or Internet device. To
see this site as it was designed please
        <a href="/upgrade/" title="The Web Standards Project's BROWSER UPGRADE
initiative.">upgrade</a> to a Web standards
        compliant browser.

The upgrade page lists 6-7 browsers with a description of their
compliance and a link to download for Mac and PC (where applicable).

In short, if you have a standards compliant browser, you get the pretty
layout. If you don't, well, then you get an old-school model of a
linearly structured page.

This also means we only have to develop one site for Web and Handheld
devices. Additionally, it means that when a new browser comes out (e.g.
Safari) that's standards compliant, we don't have to adjust anything -
it just works!
