+1 to that.

I have been involved in several initiatives that started with great fanfare
and high expectations and eventually petered out. Get something done, then
worry about cooperation.

The only exception I could think of was if there was interest in becoming
part of another group (say, as one of the WaSP's old action committees), but
at this point I don't know as that would necessarily offer much benefit.

As far as watching what other groups are doing, that should be something the
research group already has their eye on, no?
