Validity is a bit digital isn't it though, a bit on/off.

What we could do is have scale of standards from html4 - xhtml1.1 strict, that 
would give us a lot more scope to include sites and would also give people 
something to aim at (or just limit it to flavours of xhtml).

we could also have an 'honourable' mention in the higher categories for big 
people like lycos who made the effort but didn't get it quite right...
