Nothing to do with .Net seems a bit strong!?  I think we are probably 
just differing here with respect to the degree of each effect.  I think 
both items were relevant.

However, if you don't see that Java and J2EE in particular hasn't been 
given a good kick up the behind by .Net I think you're missing 
something quite obvious.

In a lot of cases, I think Java has been running scared as a result of 
.Net (look at the rapid development of project RAVE - the Java 
Development Studio, and the quick move to include Web services in 
J2EE).

Of course, one could argue these were just the result of industry 
trends ... but that's a cop out.
