I agree with Fritz about the advantages of an email based list. (that is my
preffered medium)  A web-based forum does offer many advantages also.
Perhaps the compromise solution is to have multiple lists, each one
corresponding to a "topical area/forum" in the web based milieu.  Messages
posted in the web-based environment would be distributed to the list users,
while messages posted to the list would be imported to the web-based
environment.  Then list users and web based users alike may interact in
their preferred manner.
