What I don't understand is why all this surprise now, because the lack of a
*REGULAR* /communication effort /from the core people to the community has
been a pattern.
As always, it's easy to hide the heads in a hole in the sand, and pretend
everything is fine.
On April 3, I had post this:
http://plone.293351.n2.nabble.com/Plone-5-0b1-released-tp7573532p7573543.html
It meant to be a constructive question, because if you are going to test a
beta, it is fair to know in advance some of the problems you may encounter,
some of the rough edges still out there.
(and if there are no known problems it will be at least a RC, not a beta)
And it also motivates you, because you feel that the people releasing the
beta cares enough to write some simple usage notes.
But, almost a month latter, still no reply, no info, nothing!
Try this:
Take a Plone instance and create a new folder;
Create a page inside the folder;
On the display menu, change the default view to the page you just created;
Go to the contents tab and cut and paste the page to the site root;
Return to the folder to undone the default page setting: no display menu any
more.
(it was a prospective client that found this...)
And I can show you at least half a dozen of similar incongruence.
The smart guys that made Plone 1.xx and 2.xx the best of the class, years
ahead of the competition, are here no more.
My opinion once more: the problem is not the lack of marketing, the problem
is the product itself.
Now days it is not easy to sell Plone as a efficient (cost-effective)
solution.
It has to appeal more for the potential costumers, the one's that pays the
bills, not only for the developers.
That is the actual problem of Plone.
>From the outside, in it's present form, Plone seems more like a playground
for some incompetent (or naive?) coders and their egos.
Plain simple!
But I'm sure no one is listening....
