Dear Rberto,
Thank you for your prompt reply, but creating an ".xsession" file in my
home directory with the commands you suggest does not launch the
application gkrellm at start up. Neither does creating an ".xinitrc" file.
Debian (3.1) starts up with the GDM running, so there is not opportunity to
issue the "startx" command (X is already running).
Anybody using Debian and Fluxbox?
And while there may be helpful information at luxbox (www.luxbox.org could
not be found - www.luxbox.net is a site written in the German language) I
confess I cannot read German.

Well, this isn't really a fluxbox issue, but a Debian one: just edit (or
create) your ~/.xsession file like this:
exec gkrellm -w
exec fluxbox
and the startx command will automatically launch gkrellm and fluxbox

There is fluxbox doc on www.luxbox.org, and Debian material, expecially the
Debian Reference Guide on the installation CDs.
