  I see you've already solved the problem by random manipulations.  I
had a similar problem with Flash video content on Firefox a few years
ago.  The problem started when I inserted an Nvidia card with their
binary blob.  When I got rid of the Nvidia card the problem went away.
Nvidia card plus proprietary blob seem to be the common elements in our
situations.  And we were not the only ones.  See the Google search...
