Yes. I have been running linux for about 12 years, and have had to abandon the
nvidia binary a couple of times.  Incidentally, there is now a helpful reply to
my thread on the Arch forum.  I don't know whether his analysis is correct, and
for the time being at least I am not going to rebuild any packages as he has :

"snakebite: I have the same issue in awesome wm with chrome and any program
using opengl. Rebuilding xorg-server 1.14.5-2 and related packages and the
previous version of the nvidia driver seems to get rid of the problem (nvidia
331.20 won't work with xorg-server 1.15)."
