IIRC, you can ask about sponsorship, as you can indicate whether or not you want to sponsor people to work for you.

    HR is not allowed to ask if they have a "Green Card", but merely to ask if
they are authorized to work in the U.S.  It would be in violation of federal law
to inquire about sponsorship or card status.  Hope this helps.
