RE: Ecco not working under Windows 8.1

Here is a possible solution that I found in the group long ago - see message #9061. At that time I wanted to run Ecco on a corporate PC where I didn't have an admin account, but I've had the same problem on some previous Windows upgrades too on my home PCs.
 Here's the process:
 

 Log in as admin and install Ecco
Run the program one time as the administrator. This creates a couple of files in the Windows folder which won't be created if you run it the first time as a regular user.
Set the following permissions on the following files
    Permissions
        Read Permissions
        Read Attributes
        Read Extended Attributes
        Create Files / Write Data
        Create Folders / Append Data
        Write Atributes
        Write Extended Attributes
    Files
        C:\Users\[your_username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Windows\ecco.alm
        C:\Users\[your_username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Windows\ECCO.CFX
        C:\Users\[your_username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Windows\ECCO.FDB
 
Set the following permissions in the Registry
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
        Create Subkey (this allows a regular user to create the .eco key)
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ecc
        Delete permission
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\eco
        Delete permission
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ect
        Delete permission
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mtg
        Delete permission
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\NetManage Ecco Pro
        Set Value
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\NetManage EccoPro Mtg Mail
        Set Value
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NetManage\Ecco
        Set Value
            Create Subkey
 

 No guarantees, I haven't needed to use this fix for a few years, probably not since upgrading to Windows 7. Hope to upgrade to Windows 8.1 this weekend, so might need to test it again myself.

Uninstalled Ecco, downloaded latest install pkg from Creative Services (64 bit without extensions), Reinstalled.

Same error msg.

I use Ecco all day long and am lost without it.

Can it be fixed?
