You are right. "Paste As Clone Item" pastes the clone at the current item level +1, whereas the normal "Paste" command pastes the item at the current level. I think it's a matter of concept. The main idea of cloning is to allow the same item to have multiple parent items. Therefore, conceptually, clones normally have parents. So maybe the concept was that when a clone is pasted it will usually be paste as a subitem. But you are certainly correct. Even if the clone is a subitem, you often want it to be a subitem at the same level as another subitem you are pasting it under. There is no particular reason to assume that it is being pasted beneath a level 1 item. It's a nuance, but I overall I think I agree with you. Seems to me that the clone should be pasted the same way as a regular paste with respect to its level. I think it would be more consistent and intuitive.
