Hi R6,

Thanks for the heads up on The Journal.

It looks like it could work for me in the future.

I noticed that it wants a newer version of Windows though.

I have Win 8.1 on my notebooks, but my desktop is still running Win XP.

I will continue to see what I can do with Ecco in the meantime.

A few weeks ago I slashed up my main Ecco file into smaller files, by copying

folders.

For example I now have:

-Sports

-Music

-etc

It's a bit of a pain to have to find and launch these individual files,

whereas before everything was inside my one and only Ecco file.

I may combine those smaller ones and have just two files.

That wouldn't be as much of a headache.

Rick

Hi Rick, I read your last post and this one...

I think you are right. Ecco is not a very good program for holding large amounts of data. It's simply not built for that. It's forte and central theme is about outlining, which almost by definition means "summary" as opposed to details. Would be nice if it could do both, but because of its technical limitations, and design, I don't think it's a good program for storing large amounts of data.

There are lots of options, although none does the things that Ecco does as well as Ecco. An equal -- with greater storage potential among other potential improvements -- has yet to materialize although there is currently talk (of unknown credibility) about one soon to be released. We shall see.

But let me mention a program that might be of interest to you. It's not an outliner although it has some outlining features. But it is entirely different from Ecco. In my view, it is the perfect complement to Ecco as its strengths are the mirror image of Ecco. Great for storing a lot of data of all types. Excellent for holding a lot of text including outstanding formatting, manipulation and import/export abilities. In my view, it is an Ecco class program in the "PIM" space. And that's the highest compliment I can think of. You might want to take a look.

It's called The Journal. http://www.davidrm.com/

I have been looking for ways to integrate TJ with Ecco (and posted some things about this in the other Yahoo group a while back). Unfortunately, EE is no longer in development, and cannot be modified with even relatively simple accommodations to make that integration better, but I did discuss some things I tried that worked although were not ideal. With or without Ecco integration, I think you might find TJ useful for the purposes you describe.
