Hi Bhushan... as always, you come up with good solutions. Using a date column for this is probably easier than say a number column since you can set both date and time and have it sort on that. That gives it a lot of granularity if you want to change the order of items, and you also get the date dialog which would be handy for changing dates and times if necessary.

But I think I should define something I mentioned just to be clear about what I said.

In my previous comment, when I referred to "manual sort," what I had in mind was the method of manually moving items into a certain order, not using any sort feature of Ecco or EE. It is this method that seems to have a problem sometimes.

In some cases, you can do it and the order you place the items in lasts a long time. But sometimes there are other problems that change the order for some reason or for no apparent reason. The more complex the file the more this seems to happen, and every now and then something gets triggered that destroys the item orders. This may be what happened in this case.

So yes, I think setting up some kind of sort column (you will need EE for this) is the best way to assure that your items will at least stay in a definable order although it isn't as nice as being able to just place them were you want and have them stay there until Ecco Armageddon day on 12/31/2067. :)
