Wait, what? VS2012 does not have less managed code than VS2010.

It's a mistake to think of Microsoft as monolithic with respect to
something like this. There are large parts of the company with a heavy
investment in C#, and that's simply not going to change. For that matter,
the C# compiler is being rewritten from C++ to C#. To a great extent, the
recent re-emphasis on C++ inside the company is being driven by Windows,
which

1) is concerned about being able to run efficiently on low-power devices
like phones and tablets.
2) was burnt badly by managed code in the Longhorn era
