I think you might have misunderstood me.  The shortened crux of 
what I've said is that open source volunteers don't write code 
because someone or some group of users tells them to or demands 
that they do it.  They don't write code because some corporation 
demands they need a feature in order to sell products to their 
customers, or to be able to use X for their own commercial 
purposes.

Volunteers write code on their own free will, doing what they 
like to do, for whatever their motivation, not the motivations of 
others or people ranting that some feature they need is missing.
