x server on vmware

I have Linux RH 8.0 installed on  VMware.  The virtuall machine it is installed on is mounted on an xp partition.  However when Linux starts up it says that it cannot start X server. For XP I use an S3 Graphics Twister + S3 hotkey graphics display adapter (Driver version 13.90.1.0).  But do I need to configure Xfree86.config to accomodate the graphics card mentioned itself? or the one used by my vmware tool?
