Fellow Bicyclists, Mokelumne Aqueduct Trail bridge Update I attended the Highway 4 Bypass Authority board meeting this evening, June 14, 2012. Staff clarified the direction in which they are moving: * The crossing of Highway 4 for the Mokelumne Aqueduct Trail will be a bridge. It will not be at grade. It will not be under ground. * $522,000.00 has been designated for the design. * Money for the construction of the overcrossing has not been identified or appropriated, but this process is expected to be significantly easier with plans in hand,. * The exact location of the structure will be determined in conjunction with Brentwood staff during the design of the structure. * Staff indicated that it would be best to build this project during the widening of this segment of Highway 4 from two to four lanes and expressed hope that funding can be found in time for this to happen. This announcement indicates a significant change in the attitude of the Highway 4 Bypass Authority board. Just three years ago a board member declared that, required EIR mitigation notwithstanding, he could not justify spending motorist money on bicyclist amenities.
