RE: Empathy / Acceptance

Thanks for sending me to the dictionary.  I've always used empathy and
sympathy in the opposite way.  I looked up the definitions and found out
that I've had the opportunity to learn something!
 
Empathy
Identification with and understanding of another's situation, feelings,
and motives.
 
Sympathy
The act or power of sharing the feelings of another.

For me, empathy means that I care about your experience.  I may 
or may not be able to identify with it (except in a very general 
way).  When I start to identify with your experience, that feels 
more like sympathy.  I often get into trouble when I sympathize.

I know that people use these words in many ways.
