Since my "Sincerity" story, I've been thinking a lot about the questions I ask. I've also been reading The Flawless Consulting Fieldbook by Peter Block and colleagues, which has half a dozen thought-provoking chapters about questions. Given that, here's my guess: The questions we were asking you validated your experience even as they invited you to explore your experience more fully. From your "mostly implicit" comment, I'm imagining that we asked a number of questions about the presuppositions in the things you were telling us. Is that something like what you meant?
