Morgan, you hit the nail on the head.
 
People like convenience and that is what Amazon offers in the Kindle.
 
That and the fact when most people think about buying books, especially paper, they've already been conditioned to check Amazon first.
 
I know personally I may browse at my local Barnes & Noble but I will also often check my favorite e-book retailer to see if the book is available as an e-book. If not, I'll check Amazon to see how much the book would cost if I got it from them.
 
Obviously, Amazon always comes out cheaper and unless the book is close in price and I just have to have it instantly, I'll usually order it from Amazon.
 
Checking the publisher's site usually isn't my first thought because in times past, it wasn't the cheapest alternative. Now that there is more competition, maybe I need to rethink that (?)
 
But, the whole point is, convenience and price will keep the Kindle alive because it is tied to a retailer that most book lovers already use frequently.

People love convenience and instant gratification. That's what the Amazon Kindle offers. I admire their initiative and smarts in this regard, although I'm still not happy with Amazon's recent policies about forcing BookSurge on publishers. My publisher, Hard Shell Word Factory, uses Lightning Source, which is connected with Ingrams. She doesn't care for the quality of BookSurge and won't change.I'm not sure how much that will affect my sales. People will often go to a big-name place like Amazon to buy a book when they can go straight to a publisher and get a better deal.
