For me personally, I do not like reading on my computer screen - I DO want something that approximates the look, feel and portability of a paperback book. Something a laptop doesn't do. A PDA or other backlit device is unreadable in daylight. I don't care if the reader has any other beels and whistles - though the access to Amazon's Kindle Store is nice. The only beel and whistel I would care about is being able to access my email.
I like the Kindle and Sony concept. Seeing those and being able to use them helped to lower my relunctance to consider ebooks - though I personally still prefer a physical book.
