Which is why this discussion on this forum is essentially useless.
Everyone here (probably) is already an ebook reader and so has
established their likes and dislikes as far as hardware is concerned.
Amazon, being smarter than that, deliberately designed and marketed
the Kindle to appeal to NON-ebook readers, and that is precisely why
it has been a huge success at least insofar as continuing demand
applies.

And the market of NON-ebook readers is huge compared to the
alternative. And Amazon has a number of new services in the wings for
the next generation--or at least has included the hardware for them in
the unit.

I have to find it ironic that when you mention ebooks where print
readers congregate the discussion of their potential success
inevitably devolves into "they can't succeed because I would never
read one." Here, the song is "I wouldn't want one so it's obviously
not going to last long."

When analyzing the market for anything, injecting one's personal likes
and dislikes into the discussion is irrelevant.
