You seem to have taken a lot of offense at things I stated only as my personal views referring specifically to your motivations and interests vs. my extreme lack thereof regarding awards and agents. I appear to have deeply insulted your reason for living by simply not wishing to throw myself wholeheartedly into trying to snag an agent or a NY pubber. Has it occurred to you that some people sincerely do not want to deal with all those hassles, barrels, hoops, and pony shows involved with your idea of how things should be? People buy my ebooks. That's what I set out to accomplish and I've been reasonably successful without having to dress up and play social games, enter contests, attend meetings, join author clubs, or even advertise beyond some simple flyers at conventions. All I was saying in my previous messages is this: I don't want to be bothered with the rest of it. I don't want to waste time, effort, and money sending stuff to NY and hoping the editors are in a good mood. I don't want to hang out with other authors and talk shop. I don't want to go to book-related events and hear other authors and publishers reminisce and/or expound at great length about things of no interest to me. This group -- ebook-community -- provides me with all the publishing-related 'socializing' I want. My readers are my judges, not some pompous board of self-appointed gurus who might choose or refuse based on politics and personal connections. 'Social networking' you called it. If you think all that's so very wrong and it offends you to your very core, well, that's just too bad because: You don't buy my books. You can't get me an agent or a publisher or even tell me with any certainty how to get them. You can't offer me a publishing deal. We have different interests. So... Why should I accept your opinions about publishing or the true value of awards?
