RE: Editorial Brief: Discrimination of Children with AIDS in India is increasingly disturbing

Hi,

Lets also digest one truth. Not all doctors have the ability to treat AIDS 
patients. I hear this from my uncle who works for the governemnt hospital @ 
madurai. He also felt that treating AIDS patient may be compartmentalised 
into a seperate speciality in medicine. Unfortuntely, the government is not 
showing so much interest on this , as much as it is spending on awareness 
and pre-emption.

Consider the case of TB. In the earlier days, it was considered not-curable. 
Patients were shunned by family, doctors etc.., People had to go to special 
TB sanatorium's. Parallely there was a huge amount of effort spent on 
finding a cure, creating awareness and today TB patient's have to swallow 
just 1 pill a day and the disease gets cured in a month.

Government should do more than just creating awareness. We need lot of 
trained doctors to control this pandemic. Givt can invest on research 
centres to in each apex hospital in an area to deal with AIDS patients. The 
research centres can give training to lot of doctors starting with house 
surgeons. This will change this pathetic scene.
