salam, sr. charmi, yes, it is exactly the thing i tell israeli/jewish zionists. but honestly, though, i don't see the difference yameen sees between muslims (who come in all races) and jews (who also come in all races.) for example, i'm from a continent... where the majority of the jews are black. the same continent where the majority of muslims aren't considered black. in fact, as sad as this sounds, the area i'm from... most people don't even know there are white jews ... let alone latin, indian, etc :) the comment i was making was a clear distinction between african-americans (who have a small percentage of muslims amongst them)... and general muslim public (who are mostly immigrants... most of whom arrived within the past thirty years.) they vote differently... as day and night. for example, for immigrant muslims... a zionist politician is a red flagged. for blacks, they won't even think about israel/palestine issue. it is just not an issue for black people in this country. (and this they share with most americans.) when i came to this country, i was very curious about the nation (of islam.) people make huge assumptions about them. for example, i bet many people on this list think they are the majority of african-american muslims. eeer. wrong. out of the 1 + million african-american muslims, only about 20, 000 are of the nation. the rest? traditional muslims led by the late elijah muhammad's son. afdhere Afdhere Jama Editorial Director HURIYAH Publications S A N F R A N C I S C O [email protected] http://www.huriyahmag.com >From: Charmi Miller >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [Progressivemuslimsnetwork] RE: ProgressiveMuslims digest, Vol 1 #396 - 4msgs >Date: Fri, 20 Feb 2004 08:57:59 -0500 > >br inas (sr?) yes, i agree about every chance to broaden anyone's >perpsective being a welcome opportunity..... > >sister yameen, try not to be annoyed if someone asks you why you're not >hindu if you're indian. it may seem to you to be quite an ignorant >question, but most people in most places hold a large number of >stereotypes about most people other places in the world. we all have >work to do to lift stereotypes whenever we encounter them.... > > >br afdhere, as for the comment "anti-semitic"... well... one way i have >found to try to work on th at weird little semantic problem, when someone >says someone like "well anti-semitism is on the rise", is to say in >response something like "oh yes it is, and is certainly is terrible! and >so many semitic people are hurt by it - so many jews and so many >arabs.... it is terrible. and possibly its worst manifestation, the >institutionalized anti-semitism of semitic israel against the >palestinians, just tears my heart wide open!" > >or something along those lines... ;) ..depending on who was speaking >and what they said. > >charmi > > > > >_______________________________________________ >ProgressiveMuslims mailing list >[email protected] >http://willo.nitric.co.za/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/progressivemuslims ---------- Say good-bye to spam, viru ses and pop-ups with MSN Premium -- free trial offer!
