You omitted the more important half of the error, where it says "missing 'msgstr[]' section". Unfortunately, you failed to include such essential information as Poedit version or the file in question (see http://www.poedit.net/trac/wiki/HowtoReportBugs), so it's impossible to tell whether the problem is that you use some ancient Poedit version or that the PO file you were given is malformed.
